Today marks the 6th day in Budapest for the Cadet World Championships. Yesterday was a big day for USA wrestling and there will be an article on that, but the Greco-Roman team looks to capture that momentum.
Today is the first set of finals and Medal Matches for Greco-Roman and Team USA will have 3 wrestlers competing for medals. They will be Otto Black at 48 KG who is competing for Bronze, Cory Land at 55 KG who will be competing for Gold, and at 110 KG James Mullen will be wrestling in the repechage round to earn a spot into the Bronze medal match.
Today’s medal matchups:
48 KG Bronze – Otto Black (USA) vs Faraim Mustafyev (Azerbaijan)
55 KG Gold – Cory Land (USA) vs Valerii Mangutov (Russia)
110 KG Bronze – James Mullen (USA) vs Artur Sarkisjan (Czech Republic)
Now for today’s new weights, 45 KG, 51 KG, 60 KG, 71 KG, 92 KG will get started today wrestling through the Semi-finals.
45 KG
A familiar face will take the mat for Team USA and that will be PA native Bo Bassett who has became a wrestling celebrity as of late. Bassett is coming off of a Freestyle World Title that he won on Wednesday. For how he qualified for the Greco-Roman team, Bassett beat 16U two-way Fargo champion Mack Mauger fairly soundly. Bassett will take on Ruslan Lukiaev of Russia in the Qualification Round.
51 KG
For the US, Kaedyn Williams of PA will be on the mat. In Cadet Nationals Williams beat recent 16U Fargo All American Treygen Morin and beat him in 2 of 3 matches. Williams will take on Abolfazl Ahmad Shahrakiniya of Iran in the Qualification Round.
60 KG
Up to 60 KG now where Brock Bobzien of California will be on the mat. At Cadet Nationals Bovzien dominated his way through his bracket to the finals where he took on Ayson Rice and won 2 straight matches. Bobzien will take on Bagdat Sabaz of Kazakhstan in the Qualification Round.
71 KG
Now to 71 KG where Braden Stauffenberg of Illinois will take the mat. Stauffenberg at Cadet Nationals earned his spot by beating Malachi Rider in 2 straight matches. Stauffenberg will very taking on Ruslan Nurullayev of Azerbaijan in the Round of 16.
92 KG
Finally for today Nathaniel Wemstrom from Illinois will be on the mat for Team USA. Wemstrom at Cadet Nationals took on Connor Barket in the finals where he won 2 straight matches to earn his world Team spot. Wemstrom will be taking in Rasmus Liisma of Estonia in the Round of 16.
