Today is day 5 of the Cadet World Championships and it marks the start of the Men’s Greco-Roman tournament and the end of the Women’s Freestyle tournament.
For the Women’s side it wraps up today with repechage matches this morning and the finals later today. For Team USA 3 in the finals and 1 in the repechage. At 46 KG, Ava Ward has Ukraine’s Zadvorna in the repechage match to get to the bronze medal match. Then later in the finals at 40 KG Erica Pastoriza will be taking on Romanian Voiculescu. Then at 53 KG, Katie Gomez will be taking on the Russian Khramenkova. Finally for the USA at 69 KG, Amit Elor will be taking on Siedykh from Ukraine. The finals will be at 12:00 PM on flowrestling .
Now to Greco-Roman:
Today the Cadets will be wrestling Greco-Roman at 48 KG, 55 KG, 65 KG, 80 KG, 110 KG.
48 KG
For Team USA we will see Otto Black from Colorado. Black actually beat a Freestyle Team member in Luke Lilledahl in the Cadet Nationals Semi-Finals. Black in the finals actually lost to Aden Valencia in the finals but Valencia opted to wrestle at Fargo so it’s next man up. Black will take on Yuri Karapetyan from Armenia in the Round of 16.
55 KG
Now up to 55 KG where Cory Land from Alabama. Land was on the 2019 Cadet World team and took 8th in the World Championships. Cory Land had some big wins at Cadet Nationals beating 16U Fargo runner up Kamdyn Williams and winning 2 straight in the finals to earn his spot. Land will be taking on Berati Inac of Turkey in the Round of 16.
65 KG
Jadon Skellenger from Idaho will be on the mat at 65 KG for Team USA. Skellinger earned his spot by beating Joel Adams in 2 straight matches to get to Budapest. Skellenger will be taking on Rokas Cepauskas of Lithuania in the Qualification Round this morning.
80 KG
Ryder Rogotzke from Minnesota will be on the mat for Team USA. Rogotzke dominated his bracket at Cadet Nationals where he did not stay on the mat for the full time in any of his matches. Rogotzke beat Antony Tuttle in 2 straight matches to earn his spot. Rogotzke will be taking on Mihael Salajec of Crotia in the Round of 16.
110 KG
Finally for today we will see Jim Mullen from New Jersey. Just like Bo Bassett tomorrow, Mullen made both the Cadet Freestyle and Cadet Greco-Roman and will compete in both. Mullen advanced through his Cadet Nationals bracket and was a Cadet World finalist on the Freestyle side just a couple days ago an took Silver. He will be facing Nikita Ovsjanikov from Germany in the Round of 16.
