The next wave of Women’s Freestyle matches will take place today starting at 5:30 AM with 40 KG, 46 KG, 53 KG, 61 KG, 69 KG wrestling through the Semi-finals today. Here is who is competing for Team USA today:
40 KG
At 40 KG, Arizona native Erica Pastoriza will be taking the mat for Team USA. Pastoriza took on Gigi Bragg in the Cadet Nationals finals beating her in 2 straight matches to earn her spot. She will be facing Aizhan Muratbay from Kazakstan in the Quarterfinals.
46 KG
Up a couple weights, Team USA will be sending out Missouri native Ava Ward. At Cadet Nationals she took on Rianne Murphy and needed all 3 matches in the finals to earn her spot, which shows how tough the weight is domestically. Ward will take on Bulgarian Yana Tsvetelinova Dimitrova in the Qualification Round.
53 KG
California native Katie Gomez will be the 53 KG representative for Team USA. Gomez had a dominating Cadet Nationals tournament picking up 6 tech falls in 7 matches that included 2 of those tech falls in the finals against Jaclyn Deheny. Gomez will take on Gerda Terek from Hungary in the Qualification Round.
61 KG
This right here could be our best weight on the Women’s side with Illinois native Korina Blades. Just like Gomez, Blades dominated her weight at Cadet Nationals 5 tech falls and 1 fall in 7 matches which included 2 tech falls in the finals against Marissa Jimenez. Blades will take on Emilia Mathilde Hartmann from Austria in the first of 2 Qualification Rounds.
69 KG
Finally for today we have another California native Amit Elor taking the mat for Team USA. Elora also dominated her weight at Cadet Nationals picking up 4 falls and 2 tech falls in 6 matches which included 2 falls in the finals against Maggie Graham with the two matches combining to only take 45 seconds out of the possible 8 minutes, yeah dominant. She will take on Barbara Abigel Sere from Romania in the Quarterfinals.
